Wiregrass Electric Cooperative (WEC) received an Award of Excellence for best Total Communications Program from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. This award recognizes a cooperative’s excellence in providing combined communication efforts to its members. WordSouth worked with WEC to identify its communications needs and tailor a plan to reach its goals: 1) to demonstrate to customers that they were getting a very good value for their money; 2) to educate members about rising energy costs and the ways that rate increases were affected by events — globally, nationally and locally; and 3) to present to members ways in which their cooperative was operated efficiently. WordSouth worked closely with the WEC communications staff to reach these goals by employing many forms of communications, including: a monthly member magazine; direct mail; bill inserts; a Web site; video updates presented over the Web site; an annual report; and an e-newsletter (some aspects of this program were handled in-house and did not involve WordSouth).
